It’s 18 days in and the hard work of making a life change, which often resolutions are, has began. So naturally the inability to attain perfection wins in the struggle to make the desired change. http://blog.motherhoodlaterthansooner.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 29, 2007. I was speaking with a friend today about the weekend we are about to go on together and our hopes for what it might be. We have signed up for the moms retreat upstate NY, with both Motherhood Later and other moms not from the group. Peace Village is a casual, rustic, no frills place, so I don't have to dress to impress which is good. The friend I was chatting with compared it to Club Getaway, where I used to go when I was single. Boy, does that feel like a lifetime ago. I know ther...

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Is This a Playdate or Unpaid Caregiving? By Cara Potapshyn Meyers. My son, as many of the regular readers know, is the epitome of eight-year-old social chairman. He regularly has playdates all weekend long. Sometimes with a couple different children on the same day. I enjoy having his friends over or him being invited to other’s homes. It takes a "do nothing day" and makes it into something a little more special. Out to lunch and then drinks with some friends! When the weath...

Creating Emotional Safety by Ilene Val-Essen, Ph.D. Parents don’t agree on everything and they certainly don’t need to. But one dream that we all share is that our children enjoy emotional safety. I’m a parent and a grandparent and an author of a parenting book, yet I’ve never let these words roll off my tongue. Still if I describe emotional safety, I think we’ll all agree that this is exactly what we want for our children. What is emotional safety? I identify two key attitudes. The first:. The fact that...

Thursday, May 31, 2007. I'm having a hard time focusing on work. I've got a babysitter coming 4 hours a morning now but it seems to take my brain longer than usual to dive into writing. My brain used to skip around effortlessly from task to topic. Nowadays, I'm lucky to stay on track and finish anything. Anyone else feel like that? Posted by Aliza at 1:36 PM. Friday, May 25, 2007. Friday, March 09, 2012. From Plants to Ramps by Robin Gorman Newman. What does a day in the life of a later mom look like? Depends on the day of the week, but of late in particular, it's jam-packed and not altogether fun. I feel like a chicken without a head. (A fitting expression.but where did it come from? That said, one of my fellow later mom friends called me last week to touch base. She asked how my day was going. I told her I was involved with plants and ramps. What? On any given day, I’m tackling ...
